When I was a kid, I had a Cookie Monster doll. You pulled this string in his back, and he would say things. More often than not, he’d say, in that wonderful Cookie Monster voice, “I am so blue.”
He wasn’t sad. He was just stating a fact.
He. was. blue.
My Cookie Monster friend popped into my head this morning when I was reading Exodus chapter 24. Random, I know! But I always thought his blue was so beautiful.
In verses 9-10, it says, “Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel went up and saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something like a pavement of lapis lazuli, as bright blue as the sky.”
Have you seen lapis lazuli? Go ahead, Google it. I’ll wait.
Incredible isn’t it? There’s one picture of it on the image search that, while not round, looks an awful lot like the images of Earth from space. So, so blue with white lines that look like clouds and yellowish brown earthtones that remind my eye of the continents.
Think about pavement made of that beautiful blue.
And then think about the One who stands on it.
That image is — He is — simply too beautiful for words.
