When we first married, Larry and I disagreed over what to get people for gifts. I preferred (and prefer) to pick out a personal gift that I just knew the recipient would love. Larry favored (and favors) gift cards.
I will admit that the older I get, the more sense Larry’s idea makes to me. It’s hard to know what someone wants or needs. Plus, most people, if they want something, can get it for themselves.
But for my aging self (and I would guess maybe many of you), part of the gift of a gift card is being able to shop on somebody else’s dime.
My birthday gift card and I made a trip to Barnes and Noble today. And I had so much fun.
But maybe we won’t tell Larry. 😉
