I’m sitting here with an ice pack on a knot on my knee and thinking back over my day of moving to a new office location. I spent a good portion of the afternoon arranging and rearranging furniture and unpacking boxes. I was quite proud of all I was accomplishing and then had the bright idea to tackle one moving task that made me quickly realize I might have overestimated my strength. I’m standing there, with my arms wrapped around this thing, wondering what in the world made me think I could manhandle it to the floor.
Life’s like that sometimes. We get used to handling things on our own and feeling pretty confident in our own abilities.
And then the burden gets too heavy or too big or too scary or too whatever and we find ourselves in a precarious spot. The problem of course is that we’re laboring in and relying on our own strength. That might work to move around a few boxes, but it’s not a good plan when dealing with life. There’s One who is ready, willing and able to ease our burdens and to give us peace. All we have to do is ask. God is always there.
Turning to Him will save us from a lot more than a few bumps and bruises.
