Today’s the final day of the Olympics and once again I’ve been so inspired by the stories of individuals who have dreamed and sacrificed and worked so hard to reach toward their dreams.
This morning, my quiet time included reading the 11 chapter of Hebrews, which lists people who you might say are deserving of gold medals for their faith. The chapter is sometimes referred to as “the Hall of Fame of Faith.” In it, the writer of Hebrews reminds us of individuals who have stood strong in the face of difficult circumstances, relying not on their own strength but placing their hope in the Lord and on the victory He has promised.
Verses 13 and 14 make it plain that these gold medal-winning people of faith realize this world is not the end of the story. They sacrifice the temporal and the “less than” for the eternal victory through Christ. They are, as The Message translation says, “Looking for their true home.”
It’s so easy for us to get weighed down by the earthly concerns and to take our eyes off of Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith. My prayer is that He will send us a fresh reminder today of His love, His greatness, and His promise of eternal victory through Jesus.
