Marilyn Monroe is quoted as saying “Girls will be your friends – they’ll act like it anyway. But just remember, some come, some go. The ones that stay with you through everything – they’re your true best friends. Don’t let go of them. Also remember, sisters make the best friends in the world.”
I can’t speak for all sisters, but I know mine sure does make the best friend.
Today is her birthday, and I just want to say how very grateful I am to have her as my big sister and as my friend.
I’m trying to think of perfect examples or stories to share to highlight how awesome my sister is but how does one sift through a lifetime of moments to find jewels among a sea of jewels?
I hear our young voices talking late into the night before we’re sent into a round of giggles when we hear Mother’s call of “Girls!” from across the hall.
I hear rhyming games and reciting the states and choir practice from just this week. I throw in words like “Ching a ring Ching chaw” just because I know they’ll root in her mind and have her singing them for days.
I remember her staying up with me most of the night when I got my brace for my back and was most uncomfortable. I remember her keeping me up half the night talking when she’d come home from college.
I remember her so-grown-up red Barbie dishes and her teaching me calculus when I was in elementary school because she thought it was fun and knew I would too. (I did.)
But mostly I remember how thankful I am to have her as my big sister and how very much I love her.
Happy birthday, Beth!
