Yesterday morning, between chores and going to lunch and the grocery store with Larry, I watched the Food Network. They were focusing on side dishes to go with a Thanksgovong meal, and they looked amazing.
So I soon found myself at Kroger wondering how to tell if an acorn squash was ripe (not a clue!) and where they keep the pastry bags so that I could pipe mashed potatoes into swirls and transform them into Pommes Duchesse.
Larry agreed to let me try out a Thanksgiving recipe on him only after he found out that Pommes Duchesse was in fact fancy, dressed-up potatoes. He does love his potatoes.
I managed to successfully make the potatoes and a modified version of Herb-Roasted Acorn Squash with Queso Fresco and Pomegranate (although I completely forgot to buy the pomegranate seeds!). Both were amazing, but I’m not sure there’s room for them in the oven on Thanksgiving because nothing needs to be in the way of Mother’s dressing. Mmmm.
I do have my priorities, after all.
