One of my favorite C.S. Lewis quotes says, “Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another, ‘What! You too? I thought that no one but myself…'”
I’ve been thinking a lot about friendship this morning. Today is one of my dear friend’s birthday [Happy birthday, Candy!] and I was thinking how thankful I am for the gift of her friendship. She’s a great wife and mom, a talented and smart coworker, and a woman who loves the Lord and wants to honor Him with her life.
Life teaches us to categorize friends: work friends, school friends, church friends, choir friends, WMU friends, Facebook friends, best friends, old friends, childhood friends, and so on and so on. But I have a better way to categorize: blessings. That’s it. Just one category. Paul wrote to the Philippians, “I thank my God every time I remember you.” And that’s how I feel when I think of my friends, people that I get to do life with.
My mind is racing with friends I could mention and stories I could tell, but I could never capture all that my friends mean to me with mere words. Just know that if you’re reading this, I’m thankful for you. And I just thought you should know.
In closing, because more than anything Candy loves to laugh, I will add one final quote from Linda Grayson:
Dawn, so true, friends mean everything!! I’m so thankful for YOUR friendship. You have such gifts for your friends: you make me laugh, you are thoughtful, observant, kind and SO easy to get to know. I think my word for 2016 is going to be: BLESSED. I have so many examples of blessings in my life! I want to share and celebrate my blessings!
That’s awesome, Patty!! I love the idea of choosing “blessed” as a word for the year! And I am thankful for you, too. I am so glad God brought you home to share you with us!
