Grown lately? #366Days Day 83

Yesterday, I had the honor of being mentioned in a blog post by the wonderful new friend I made at last weekend’s writer’s conference. In the post, my friend talks about struggling with going to the conference all alone and discovering that everything worked out okay — or even better than okay. We learned, we laughed, and in our case, we made a good writing buddy.

The conference was, for both of us, one of those moments where you can literally feel yourself growing. I was wwwwaaaaayyyyy outside my comfort zone. But that’s one way we grow. {Check out my Pink Typewriter post on why leaving your comfort zone is a good thing!}

The great American jurist Oliver Wendell Holmes once said, “A mind that is stretched by new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.” And there’s a plethora of advice on the internet offering thoughts like, “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.”

Looking back on my life, I have quite a few memories of days like Saturday — those extra special days of stretching myself beyond what I thought I could do and then realizing I was all the better for it.

Like my new friend, I find myself relishing the memories all the more — and wanting to figure out how to have more of those days in my future.
