Psalm 46:10 says “Be still and know that I am God.”
I don’t know about you, but stillness isn’t always a word that comes to mind when I think about my days. I seem to operate in an over-caffeinated haze that has me scurrying from hither to yon.
Scurrying seems the opposite of stillness.
Next, I think of the restlessness that comes even in what should be restful moments. Some have trouble sleeping. Others (guilty!) seem perpetually attached to a device, be it a tv or computer or bright little iSomething.
Typing and swiping seem the opposite of stillness.
Our world is filled with noise from the constant hum of electronics to the rarely-absent sound of car motors.
Noise seems to drown out stillness.
God calls us to stillness, to rest, to let Him lead us beside quiet waters. That sounds wonderful to me.
