Larry and I are driving to his sister’s house getting ready to celebrate Mother’s Day with his mom. There’s a steady rain falling, just enough to mess up the windshield but not to have the wipers on full blast.
It’s an unauthorized rain, as we like to joke, meaning of course that the weather app didn’t tell us it was coming. Unauthorized or not. Forecasted or not, it reminds me of one of our dear memories from Ireland.
Our rental car — a cousin to my very own VW Beetle — was equipped with automatic wipers. They adjusted themselves to these kinds of rain, where you just can’t get the notch just right. We named the auto feature “Fergus” — a good Irish name to be sure. Fergus took great care of us on windy roads and through the center of the Green Isle of Erin.
We could use him for this trip as well.
