Happy birthday, America!
I popped out of bed this morning at 6:30 a.m. excited like Christmas. It’s 8:30, and I’ve made slaw and have brownies in the oven. My nephew, I heard, is in charge of the barbecue sauce this year, and he spent part of yesterday making the secret recipe that none of us girls are allowed to know — except my mom, of course, who buys the ingredients.
We will drink lemonade and sit outside in the shade like we’ve done all of my life. Family, tradition, and food — sounds like a good way to celebrate America to me.
