I’m getting a little tired around the edges this week from staying up late to watch the Olympics. The competition and the human drama are intriguing, but the other night during the men’s synchronized diving finals, I heard something that was a great reminder for me — and maybe for you. Americans David Boudia and Steele Johnson won the silver medal and when asked about the pressure they’d been under, both had the same thing to say:
Their identity wasn’t rooted in the outcome of a swim meet — not even an Olympic one. It is rooted in Christ.
This is one of the lessons Paul works awfully hard at in his letters, wanting us to see who we are in Christ. During my devotional time today, God revealed some pretty awesome truths about the identity of those of us who belong to Him simply because of our relationship with Him as our Savior.
Try these on for size and let them reshape your day. I’m praying they’ll do just that for mine.
Through Jesus, Christians are:
- Empowered by God
- Able to fight victoriously against the evil one
- Lavished with grace
- A child of the Light who is able to bear the fruit of the Light
- Chosen before the foundation of the world
- Holy and blameless
- Adopted through God’s choice
- Redeemed and forgiven
- A recipient of a glorious inheritance
- Secured forever by the Holy Spirit
- And so much more
May God open our eyes so that we can see His truth for our lives.
