I fell a little behind in my Olympic-watching this weekend. Even though I know the outcome, I’m watching the event finals in gymnastics that aired last night.
Just a moment ago, I saw the 41-year-old gymnast from Uzbekistan compete in the vault finals. Y’all, that’s just a little bit younger than me, and yes, I’ve read that she finished seventh out of eight, but she deserves amazing credit for her stamina and her commitment to her sport.
The commentators talk a lot about why she’s still competing in these, her seventh Olympics. Her answer? Because she loves it.
How many of us would compete against people less than half our age in such a physical sport? She’s an inspiration, medal or no medal.
